Overview

Casino de Montréal occupies the former French and Quebec pavilions from Expo 67 on Île Notre-Dame, and it is the most architecturally interesting gaming building in Canada by a wide margin. Five levels of modernist pavilion, connected by an atrium, now hold roughly 3,000 slot machines and around 115 gaming tables.

It is operated directly by Loto-Québec, and the state ownership shows in the details: no aggressive marketing on the floor, clear responsible gambling signage, staffed help desks and a general tone that is closer to a public institution than to a commercial resort.

The catch for this digest is that there is no hotel. Visitors stay downtown or in the Old Port and cross to the island — ten minutes by car, fifteen by métro to Jean-Drapeau plus a short shuttle. The property earns its place because the floor and the food are among the best in the country, not because of a room key.
