The gambling landscape in Ontario

Ontario is where the Canadian casino hotel story is easiest to tell. Two full-scale resorts sit within walking distance of the Horseshoe Falls, a third faces Detroit across the river at Windsor, a fourth sits in cottage country north of Barrie, and a fifth has grown out of the Toronto commuter belt at Pickering. Between them they account for a large share of all casino hotel rooms in Canada.

Gaming is licensed by the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario, and the minimum age on any casino floor in the province is 19. Ontario also opened regulated single-event sports wagering in 2021, which is why the sportsbook lounges here tend to be larger and better equipped than their counterparts further west.
