Overview

Casino Rama sits on Chippewas of Rama First Nation land near Orillia, ninety minutes north of Toronto and squarely inside cottage country. It was the first commercial casino in Ontario to be operated on First Nation territory, and it remains the province's only full casino resort outside a city.

The setting does most of the work. You arrive through lake country, and the property — 289 rooms, a spa, eight or nine places to eat and a 5,000-seat entertainment centre — is laid out low and wide rather than stacked into towers. The casino floor covers about 100,000 square feet with roughly 2,200 slot machines and 60 tables.

It functions as a weekend resort more than a gambling destination, which is the right instinct. Summer traffic comes off the lakes, winter traffic comes for the shows, and the property is comfortable enough with both that the casino floor never feels like the only reason you are there.

Slots & slot machines
Around 2,200 machines across a broad floor, with a good high-limit room and plenty of the current video slot cabinets alongside older reel machines.
Table games
Roughly 60 tables: blackjack in quantity, roulette, baccarat, craps and several carnival card games. Weekend minimums climb; mid-week is where the value sits.
Poker room
A dedicated poker room with cash games and a tournament series, popular enough with Toronto players to justify the drive.
Sportsbook
A sportsbook area with screens and lounge seating adjoining the main floor.
Live casino
Live dealer tables through the pit, with electronic terminals nearby for lower minimums.
High rollers & VIP
A high-limit gaming room with its own hosts, plus VIP service tied to the resort's loyalty programme and suite inventory.

Hotel & resort

The 289-room hotel is comfortable, quiet and more resort than casino in feel — wood, stone and lake-country colours rather than gilt. There is a full spa, an indoor pool and a genuine sense of separation between the accommodation and the floor, which matters more in a property this size than most operators realise.

Entertainment

The 5,000-seat Entertainment Centre is the largest venue of its kind in the region and books national touring acts year-round. In a town of 30,000 people this is an unusual amount of programming, and it is the single biggest driver of weekend occupancy.
