Overview

Great Canadian Casino Resort Toronto is the newest full-scale casino hotel in Canada, and the difference shows the moment you walk in: high ceilings, generous sightlines and a floor plan designed after a decade of learning what people actually dislike about older rooms. It sits in Pickering, thirty-five minutes east of downtown Toronto on Highway 401.

The floor covers roughly 165,000 square feet — second only to Fallsview — with around 2,700 slot machines and close to 100 gaming tables, including one of the largest poker rooms in the province. A 5,000-seat theatre shares the complex, along with a 300-room hotel that opened two years after the casino itself.

What it lacks is a setting. This is a purpose-built entertainment complex beside a highway interchange, and no amount of interior design changes that. Judged on the building rather than the location, though, it is the most comfortable large casino floor in the country to spend an evening on.

The casino floor

Slots & slot machines
Roughly 2,700 modern slot machines, the newest fleet in Canada, with wide aisles and a high-limit slot room that is properly separated from the main bank.
Table games
Close to 100 tables — blackjack, roulette, baccarat, craps, pai gow and a full set of card games, with a genuinely wide range of minimums.
Poker room
One of Ontario's largest poker rooms, running daily Texas Hold'em cash games and a heavy tournament calendar with professional dealers.
Sportsbook
A large sportsbook lounge built for the post-2021 Ontario market, with tiered seating and a full screen wall.
Live casino
Live dealer tables across the pit, plus an extensive bank of electronic table terminals carrying live-dealer feeds.
High rollers & VIP
Dedicated high-limit gaming salons for both tables and slots, with private cage service, host support and 24/7 VIP service for qualifying players.

Machine and table counts are approximate and were last checked in July 2026. Licensed gaming in Ontario is overseen by the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO).

Hotel & resort

The 300-room hotel is the newest casino hotel product in the country and it feels it — large bathrooms, good soundproofing, contemporary rather than themed rooms. There is a pool, a fitness centre and direct indoor access to the casino and theatre. Views are of parkland and highway, which is the honest trade for everything else being new.

On site

  • approx. 300 rooms and suites
  • Indoor pool and fitness centre
  • 5,000-seat theatre
  • Large conference and event space
  • Multiple bars and lounges
  • Free on-site parking

Dining

The Buffet
Modern, bright and better than the buffet average, with a long service window.
Steakhouse and grill
The property's upper-tier room, aimed at pre-theatre dinner.
Sports lounge
Attached to the sportsbook, and the busiest bar in the building on a Saturday.
Quick service counters
Several options on the casino level for a short break rather than a meal.

Entertainment

The 5,000-seat theatre programmes concerts, comedy and touring productions most weekends, and it has quickly become one of the busier mid-size venues in the Greater Toronto Area. Tickets are sold to the public with no casino floor access required.

Pros & cons

What works

  • Newest and most comfortable large floor in Canada
  • Excellent poker room and sportsbook
  • Free parking, which the Toronto market rarely offers
  • Hotel and theatre connect indoors

What does not

  • No setting to speak of — this is a highway complex
  • Room views are functional at best
  • Little reason to leave the property, and nothing nearby if you do

Verdict

8.4 editorial score out of 10
Pickering, Ontario

The right pick if the floor itself is the point. Nothing in Canada is newer, and the poker room alone justifies the drive from Toronto. For a weekend with a view, go elsewhere; for an evening of table games done well, this is the strongest room in the province.
