Overview

Grey Eagle is owned and operated by the Tsuut'ina Nation on land immediately southwest of Calgary, and it has grown into the busiest casino floor in the city. The 2018 hotel addition — 176 rooms with mountain views from the upper floors — turned what was a large local casino into a genuine casino hotel.

The floor covers about 100,000 square feet with roughly 1,200 slot machines and 40 tables. Alberta's 18+ minimum applies. Attached to it is a 2,000-seat event centre that books a national touring calendar, plus a conference space that fills through the week.

The property is close enough to Calgary to work as a city hotel and far enough out to have mountain sightlines, which is a combination nothing else in the province offers.

Verdict

8.0 editorial score out of 10
Calgary, Alberta

The strongest casino hotel in southern Alberta and a straightforward recommendation for a Calgary weekend. Ask for a west-facing room on a high floor and check the event calendar before booking.
