Casino hotel review · Last checked June 2026
Alberta's most complete casino resort — hotel, twin ice rinks, event centre and a floor that runs 18+.
River Cree sits on Enoch Cree Nation land immediately west of Edmonton and is the most complete casino resort in Alberta. The complex holds a 249-room Marriott, a 90,000 square foot casino floor, an event centre, two NHL-size ice rinks and a golf course next door — a combination that exists nowhere else in the country.
The floor carries roughly 1,100 slot machines and 40 tables, with a poker room that draws steadily from Edmonton. Alberta's minimum age of 18 applies, which changes the feel of a Friday evening compared with the 19+ provinces.
It works as a resort because the non-gaming half is real rather than token. The rinks host junior and pro practice sessions, the event centre programmes concerts and fights, and the hotel is a straightforward good Marriott. The casino experience is one attraction among several.
Machine and table counts are approximate and were last checked in June 2026. Licensed gaming in Alberta is overseen by the Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis (AGLC).
The Marriott River Cree holds 249 rooms and is the best hotel product attached to any Alberta casino — full-size rooms, a proper pool and fitness centre, and enough soundproofing that the event centre does not reach you. Suites are large and priced well below the equivalent in Ontario.
The event centre programmes concerts, boxing and MMA, and the twin rinks bring a steady stream of hockey traffic that gives the property a different rhythm from a pure gaming venue. Both are ticketed independently of the casino floor.
The Alberta property to book if you want a full casino hotel weekend rather than an evening out. Good rooms, a real event calendar and an 18+ floor, all fifteen minutes from Edmonton.
