Overview

River Cree sits on Enoch Cree Nation land immediately west of Edmonton and is the most complete casino resort in Alberta. The complex holds a 249-room Marriott, a 90,000 square foot casino floor, an event centre, two NHL-size ice rinks and a golf course next door — a combination that exists nowhere else in the country.

The floor carries roughly 1,100 slot machines and 40 tables, with a poker room that draws steadily from Edmonton. Alberta's minimum age of 18 applies, which changes the feel of a Friday evening compared with the 19+ provinces.

It works as a resort because the non-gaming half is real rather than token. The rinks host junior and pro practice sessions, the event centre programmes concerts and fights, and the hotel is a straightforward good Marriott. The casino experience is one attraction among several.

The casino floor

Slots & slot machines
Around 1,100 machines across a wide, low floor, from penny denominations to a compact high-limit room. The fleet skews modern.
Table games
Roughly 40 tables — blackjack, roulette, baccarat, craps and card games, with minimums that stay reachable most nights.
Poker room
A dedicated poker room with daily Texas Hold'em cash games and a regular tournament schedule; the main poker draw in the Edmonton area.
Sportsbook
A sports lounge with a screen wall attached to the main bar.
Live casino
Live dealer tables through the pit, with electronic terminals in their own bank.
High rollers & VIP
A high-limit gaming room with host service and VIP rates on suites for qualifying players.

Machine and table counts are approximate and were last checked in June 2026. Licensed gaming in Alberta is overseen by the Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis (AGLC).

Hotel & resort

The Marriott River Cree holds 249 rooms and is the best hotel product attached to any Alberta casino — full-size rooms, a proper pool and fitness centre, and enough soundproofing that the event centre does not reach you. Suites are large and priced well below the equivalent in Ontario.

On site

  • 249-room Marriott hotel
  • Indoor pool and fitness centre
  • Event centre for concerts and fights
  • Two NHL-size ice rinks
  • Golf course adjacent
  • Free parking

Dining

Sage
The upper-tier dining room, and the property's best kitchen by some margin.
The Kitchen buffet
Large, well-run and busiest on weekend evenings.
Tap 25
Sports bar with screens and a long beer list.
Counters and coffee
Quick service on the casino level.

Entertainment

The event centre programmes concerts, boxing and MMA, and the twin rinks bring a steady stream of hockey traffic that gives the property a different rhythm from a pure gaming venue. Both are ticketed independently of the casino floor.

Pros & cons

What works

  • The most complete resort offer in Alberta
  • Genuinely good hotel at prairie prices
  • Strongest poker room in the Edmonton area
  • Non-gaming attractions that stand on their own

What does not

  • Nothing walkable off-property
  • Table spread is narrower than the eastern giants
  • Event nights strain the restaurants

Verdict

8.2 editorial score out of 10
Enoch, near Edmonton, Alberta

The Alberta property to book if you want a full casino hotel weekend rather than an evening out. Good rooms, a real event calendar and an 18+ floor, all fifteen minutes from Edmonton.
