Overview

Parq is the only true downtown casino hotel in a major Canadian city. It occupies a full block beside BC Place stadium and stacks two hotels — a JW Marriott and the boutique Douglas — a casino floor, six restaurants and a sixth-floor rooftop park into one vertical complex.

The casino, branded Parq Casino, is the smallest floor of any property in this digest's top ten at around 72,000 square feet, with roughly 600 slot machines and 75 tables. It is also the most comfortable: low ceilings avoided, natural light where a casino floor almost never has it, and a table mix built for a downtown crowd rather than a bus tour.

The reason to come is the hotel half. The Douglas is one of the better hotels in Vancouver on its own merits, casino or no casino, and the food across the complex is a genuine draw. If the floor is your priority you will find more machines at River Rock; if the stay is your priority, Parq wins comfortably.

The casino floor

Slots & slot machines
Around 600 machines — a deliberately compact, modern fleet, with high-limit slots in their own room rather than roped off inside the main floor.
Table games
Roughly 75 tables covering blackjack, baccarat, roulette, pai gow and a set of card games. Minimums run higher than the suburban BC floors.
Poker room
A small poker room with cash games; serious tournament players head to River Rock.
Sportsbook
A sports lounge with screens and seating adjoining the floor.
Live casino
Live dealer tables across the pit, with electronic terminals in a separate bank.
High rollers & VIP
Private gaming salons with their own entrance and host team, plus 24/7 VIP service tied to the two hotels' suite inventory.

Hotel & resort

Two distinct hotels share the block. The JW Marriott Parq is the larger and more conventional, with excellent beds and a proper gym; The Douglas is the smaller, design-led sibling, part of Marriott's Autograph Collection, and the better room if you can get one. Both open onto the sixth-floor park, a genuine outdoor deck with grass and trees that is unique in Canadian hotels.

Entertainment

Parq has no theatre of its own — it does not need one. BC Place and Rogers Arena are both a short walk away, and the property functions as the hotel for whatever those venues are programming. The rooftop park hosts events through the summer.

Book it for the stay rather than the floor. As a Vancouver hotel with a casino downstairs it is excellent value for what it is; as a gaming destination it is outclassed by River Rock twenty minutes south.
